Forecasters expect a major hurricane on Saturday and up to 35 inches of rain on the island's eastern slopes.

Nolo is a hurricane now, and the Big Island's rain starts today. At 11 PM last night its centre sat about 240 miles south of South Point, with 80 mph winds and a pressure of 985 mb, moving north-north-east at 5 mph. Forecasters expect a major hurricane on Saturday as it slows to a crawl south of the island and then turns west. A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch cover Hawaii County.
