CENTRAL THAILAND — THE CREST REACHES NAKHON SAWAN, AND SING BURI EVACUATES

On the board · October 2, 2026 →
CRESTING · October 2, 2026 · NO. 1002
THE WATER

Thailand's flood crest has reached Nakhon Sawan, where the flow is peaking near 3,010 cubic metres a second. The Chao Phraya Dam has stepped its release to about 2,400, within a ceiling of 2,500, and rivers below could rise 40 to 70 cm. In Sing Buri, an emergency phone alert told Hua Pa, in Phrom Buri, to leave after water breached an embankment. About 2.93 million people in 31 provinces are affected. (Handled with care.)

Bangkok is holding, its water steady or falling. Ayutthaya, where about 42,000 households are affected, is rising and takes the pulse on Saturday. In Chai Nat, an embankment collapse flooded more than 500 homes. The toll stands at 24 in the disaster-prevention department's count of this event; a wider government count runs higher.

Forecasters expect a fresh round of rain from Monday to Wednesday, first in the north and north-east, then over the Central Plains and Bangkok, onto a basin with no room left. For basin water managers, pump-station crews and district relief offices, the call is how much to drain toward the Gulf before it arrives.
