A cut-off low has stalled over eastern Spain, a day after the country's warnings had ended. The whole Valencian coast is under a red rain warning from 6 PM tonight to 2 AM, with up to 90 mm in an hour and 160 mm in two. Valencia has cancelled classes in flood-prone areas and closed its parks, and emergency services have been on alert since midnight.
Forecasters give a 70% chance of more than 150 mm in under six hours, and some places could see 200 mm in a few hours; neighbouring towns may see very different totals. Orange warnings cover Castellón, northern Alicante and southern Tarragona from 2 PM, and Catalonia's orange runs to Friday noon. The worst falls tonight into Friday morning.
Across the border, the Cévennes red has ended with no deaths after about 338 mm at Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, and the Hérault stays red only for its rivers as the Lez and Vidourle fall. For civil-protection officers, school districts and road operators along the Spanish coast, the call is to close before the cells form, not after.
4 turning points on record since Sep 28.
