WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

Weather observers noted that the storm passed just south of the Izu Islands while still showing tropical features, then quickly weakened and shifted into an extratropical system. Their accounts align with the official forecast on both the close approach to the islands and the timing of the transition to a non-tropical storm.
