The most consequential marine call today is an island ferry timetable, and the reason it can be made early is the size of the thing making it necessary. Dujuan's gale field reaches about 950 km on its north side, so Ogasawara on Saturday and the Izu Islands on Sunday are inside the wind long before the centre is near — small-craft and inter-island go/no-go for communities whose only link is the boat, plus Philippine-Sea routing and Tokyo-Bay port-call sequencing, and no Philippine exposure at 2,460 km outside the area of responsibility. Offshore of Mexico, EP98 at 60 and 80 and a second wave at 80 over seven days are a routing question before they are a warning. South Africa's Orange 6 puts sea state and displacement risk on the KwaZulu-Natal coast, Saudi Arabia's reds hold on the south-western coast, the Palawan low sits across Visayas lanes, and New Zealand's front has moved to North Island waters.
